Souda (pronounced so-da) is a Japanese word that roughly translates to “Oh, yeah!”
Souda is an industrial design studio and manufacturer formed in September 2012. Founding partners Isaac Friedman-Heiman, Shaun Kasperbauer, and Luft Tanaka met at Parsons School of Design, where the three discovered a mutual affinity for exploring process and material. As Souda, the partners channel their diverse backgrounds, inventive techniques, and broad knowledge of materials into a collaborative design process. With a rich material vocabulary, Souda utilizes a process-driven approach to create objects that are embedded with character. By combining in-house production with components produced by local machinists, woodworkers, and metal shops, Souda’s objects are as uniquely expressive as they are well-crafted.
Souda is based in Brooklyn, New York.
