Sierra Nets is the custom net building studio of U.S. Army veteran Greg Madrigal. An ardent fisherman, artist and craftsman for almost 40 years, it was a natural fit for Greg to combine these passions to design one-of-a-kind, heirloom nets ideal for all fishing enthusiasts, from the novice to the professional fly fisherman.
Greg began woodworking in his early 20s, when he salvaged kiln-dried mahogany, maple, oak and walnut from the dumpster of a local wood door manufacturer. Greg used his artistic flair to transform these scraps into striking pieces of hand-crafted furniture. In addition, Greg whiled away hours in his garage, making wood landing nets for family and friends.
Each net demands a keen attention to detail and a painstaking process of artisanship. Greg starts with the handles, selecting highly figured wood such as curly walnut, birds-eye maple and ribbon mahogany - anything that boasts outstanding visual characteristics. After gluing up and sanding the net, Greg finishes the net by hand-rubbing a proprietary mix of oils that makes the wood's grain really pop. The result is a piece of equipment that is the perfect intersection of art and utility.
Greg lives and works in Garden Grove, California.
