With the unique background of an English upbringing and a paternal history rooted in the US and UK, Russell Jebbia has nourished an unparalleled aesthetic eye for detail, precision and good design. He witnessed and took part in the transformation of the fashion industry in the early 1990s. His passion for seeking out excellence began his journey to create what he sought in the marketplace but couldn’t find. Russell founded and owned a clothing and accessory retail store, The Eye. The Eye was tailored into a discreet destination for celebrity clientele and tastemakers of a burgeoning NYC fashion scene. Although Russell’s vision as a proprietor was to exhibit his creativity and offerings below the mainstream radar for a discerning customer, The Eye was a regular feature on the media scene for representing cutting edge style and foresight. It gained media acclaim in Vogue, Time Out NY, Paper and MTV. Design students from New York’s esteemed Parson’s New School of Design were encouraged to study his innovative product selection and its placement in his SoHo store.
Russell’s latest foray into the world of design is a return to what he first sought with The Eye, but with a fresh outlook and a very personal vision. Armed with an appreciation for the clean tailoring of Savile Row and attention to the details that was nurtured by his grandmother, a personal couture dressmaker and tailor for British royals and the elite, Russell has entered into the latest realm of his design future. Russell has founded Jebbia, a collection of premium cashmere goods that are exquisite to the touch and in the strictest sense homegrown. With a deft attention to detail, Jebbia reinvents classic silhouettes pairing luxurious materials with modern, cutting-edge technology, offering a product line that is all made in the U.S. Jebbia uses new and creative insight to bring quality and value back to producing at home, linking the craftsman back to the native client. His creations are tailored from a conviction that excellence is attainable.
Russell lives and works in New York.
