Claire Gaudion's charming pannier a cous - traditional Guernsey fishing baskets made out of black maul willow, are handcrafted creations emblematic of a powerful family legacy. As a child, Claire watched her fisherman father weave intricate baskets out of willow, which he used to carry his lunch down to the beach and bring back his catch in. Several years ago, Claire began crafting her own baskets, keeping alive a craft that has been passed down the generations in her family.
While still weaving baskets in the traditional Guernsey way, Claire's designs have many contemporary uses - shopping baskets, bicycle panniers, carriers for gardening tools, magazine racks, kindling storage and kitchen baskets for bread, vegetables or even clothes pegs.
Claire lives and works in Whitchurch, Hampshire, UK and Guernsey, Channel Islands.
