NICK SCHADE

Nick Schade makes customized wooden kayaks and other small boats for discriminating collectors and boaters. His inspiration for was born out of his life-long passion for canoeing and kayaking, as well as a drive to design and build a better boat than he could initially afford to buy. Nick's high-performance boats are characterized by clean, elegant lines and smooth, responsive motion through the ocean. With an aesthetic sense found on functionality, Nick's pieces are suitable for riding late-season hurricane-generated swells or for displaying in a post and beam great room. They are designed by a dedicated kayaker seeking to achieve the highest performance standards and built by a craftsman who feels that beauty and performance go hand in hand.

Nick's work has been featured in premier publications such as Robb Report, Wired magazine and ForbesLife; one of his kayaks is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art. He has taught kayak construction at Mystic Seaport, the WoodenBoat School and the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking.

Nick lives and works in Groton, Connecticut, USA.
